About Us
The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana is the
Indiana affiliate of the national American
Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU of Indiana is dedicated to protecting
the freedoms guaranteed to Indiana residents by the Indiana and United
States Constitutions. The ACLU of Indiana is nonpartisan and does not
endorse political candidates.
The ACLU of Indiana is neither a government agency nor
a general legal services organization. We have limited resources and staff
and are unable to pursue every case that comes to our attention. All
requests for legal assistance must be submitted in writing, and can be
submitted through our website at
www.aclu-in.org/file_a_complaint or by calling our intake line at
317-635-4059, ext. 102.
The ACLU of Indiana is comprised of two separate
corporate entities, the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana Inc. and
the ACLU of Indiana Foundation. Although both the ACLU of Indiana Inc. and
the ACLU of Indiana Foundation are part of the same overall organization, it
is necessary to have two separate organizations in order for the ACLU to do
a broad range of work in protecting civil liberties, including litigation,
legislative action, advocacy, communications outreach, education and
fundraising. This website refers to both organizations under the name "ACLU
of Indiana."
