Poll Worker Tips: Interacting Respectfully with Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming People on Election Day

Poll workers must understand the complexities of Indiana's voter ID law, manage electronic or paper poll books, set-up election equipment, and, of course, understand the essential civil rights of voters. It is no small task!

The ACLU of Indiana, Freedom Indiana, and the League of Women Voters of Indiana, want to help make sure all voters are treated with the respect they are due on Election Day. We know they work hard to create barrier-free and non-threatening polling locations for voters. That is why we have developed this "tip sheet" on how to respectfully interact with transgender and gender non-conforming people at the polls.

We encourage all people spending time at the polls on Election Day to utilize this document. Please contact our Director of Advocacy, Katie Blair at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you have any questions.
