ACLU of Indiana Marriage Equality Plaintiffs in Washington, D.C.Just over a year ago, Hoosiers faced a terrifying possibility: that our lawmakers would enshrine discrimination into Indiana's Constitution by banning same-sex marriages.
Together, with our voices raised, we beat that amendment.
Then last September, we won marriage equality for all Hoosiers in a major victory in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Today we are in our nation's capital to witness the start of the U.S. Supreme Court hearing on marriage equality bans in Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky. When the Supreme Court issues its decision, we will know whether same-sex couples will be able to marry in all 50 states, or whether marriage bans may be reinstituted in many of the states, like Indiana, in which they have been struck down.

While we may not know the Supreme Court's decision until the end of June, we do know one thing: we would never have been able to go from facing enshrinement of discrimination into our state constitution to potentially securing the right to marry nationwide without the work and leadership of the ACLU. The ACLU first challenged laws restricting marriage for same-sex couples in 1972, and never gave up the fight.
The ACLU supported our fight for equality. Now we ask you to support the ACLU.

With your support, we can continue to fight for equality among all Hoosiers, uphold the victories we've secured and shield against efforts by some to use religion as an excuse to discriminate.
We are so humbled by the work of the ACLU, our fellow plaintiffs and millions of LGBTQ individuals from around this country that have gotten us to this place in history. We are thankful that the tides of change favoring equality for all have made their way across America and are right at the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court. Love is patient. Love is kind. We have been patient, we have been kind, and we are ready!
