In September 2011, the ACLU of Indiana announced the largest gift in our history – a gift of $500,000 from the estate of Albert and Sara Reuben, designed to serve as the cornerstone of a three-year campaign to take the organization to the next level in terms of our ability to promote, protect and defend the constitutional rights and freedoms guaranteed to all. The need for the these protections has seldom been greater. We receive around 800 requests for assistance every month, and our nationally renowned legal team has up to 40 cases on its docket at any one time.

David's 60th Anniversary Gift
Here's an idea from one supporter who decided to honor the people in his life who have worked to promote civil liberties:

“On my long run on Saturday morning I had an interesting idea (if I’m lucky, I have one over the course of a run). … I’m sending a single check for $300. However, the idea is to have it attributed to 5 different folks for separate $60 birthday presents. They’ll be in honor of my grandfather (who despite being a Republican was a major supporter and legal advisor for the predecessor of Planned Parenthood), my father (a newspaper publisher who regularly discussed the First Amendment), my older son Matthew (who volunteered for the ICLU and started a Gay-Straight Alliance at North Central), my younger son Evan (who is seeking freedom of expression as an artist), and Mimi and me (who’ve benefitted from all of the above). With that sort of well-fertilized soil, we should be better contributors and supporters.”
