Following the 2016 election, the fight for voting rights remains as critical as ever. Politicians across the country continue to engage in voter suppression, efforts that include additional obstacles to registration, cutbacks on early voting, and strict voter identification requirements. Through litigation and advocacy, the ACLU is fighting back against attempts to curtail an essential right in our democracy, the right to vote.
In Indiana, we fought against voter files being purged to ensure that everyone has the right to vote. Indiana to this day has some of the worst voter ID laws in the nation. We are joining our coalition partners, in alliance with ACLU’s People Power, calling for non-partisan redistricting. Elected officials should not be allowed to pick their voters, voters should pick their elected officials. Everyone has a voice, voting is our constitutional right to ensure every voice is heard.
