These bills prohibit and criminalize families and doctors for providing life-saving, age-appropriate, evidence-based care for youth who require it. These bills go far beyond medical procedures, limiting even standard affirming mental healthcare for youth. All five bills would ban nearly all forms of science-based care available to trans youth, and could forcibly deprive some youth of life-saving care that they are already receiving.

These bills are part of a coordinated campaign to drive transgender people, particularly youth, out of public life. Bills such as these violate the rights of parents and families to make decisions about their children’s health. Young people who are trans need support and affirmation, not to be a political target. We oppose any bills that take away potentially life-saving care from trans youth.
