This broadly worded bill would legalize discrimination against a wide variety of Hoosiers attempting to access mental health services. SB 300 would allow public school counselors to arbitrarily refuse care to LGBTQ youth, pregnant teens, or anyone of a different faith, without regard to the needs of a young person in crisis, simply by claiming a vague moral objection. It could even allow counselors to refuse care to people experiencing domestic violence based on religious or ethical beliefs. This bill would turn medical ethics on their head, putting the beliefs of a provider far ahead of the needs of their patients.
