This bill discriminates against transgender youth by banning them from participating in school sports. Such blanket bans have been decried by medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, as unnecessary and unscientific. In addition, Indiana athletics policy for schools is set by the IHSAA, which already sets stringent limits on the participation of youth in sports. Numerous Federal courts, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Education have found such bans violate the Civil Rights Act as well as the Equal Protections Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
