HB 1493 would ensure that parents do not have to pay for the defense of their child in juvenile court unless the judge finds that they are financially able to. This would also apply if DCS has custody of the child. This bill removes an undue burden from families going through the juvenile justice system by putting the responsibility on the courts to find the parent able to pay.
