The ACLU of Indiana has a long history of defending the LGBTQ community and continues to work to ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people can live openly without discrimination and enjoy equal rights, personal autonomy, and freedom of expression and association.

  • Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SB 65) OPPOSE
Plainly intended to target LGBTQ students, this bill would limit instruction on “human sexuality” including instruction on “sexual orientation” or “gender identity.”  The bill would require written consent from a parent or guardian for such instruction to be provided. By targeting a vulnerable group of young people and preventing educators from creating safe and responsive learning environments, this bill could result in violations of Title IX and the Constitution and subject the state to protracted and costly litigation.
