By unnecessarily limiting the definition of “sex” to “biological sex” -- these bills would prevent transgender people from updating their birth certificate to reflect the reality of their daily lives.

Transgender people must already undergo a complex and expensive medical and legal process in order to update their identity forms — and have had the ability to correct their vital records for decades in Indiana with no problems reported. Thess bills only serves to single this already vulnerable population out for discrimination.

Accurate identification is necessary for everyone, and inaccurate identification can expose transgender people to harassment and discrimination. These bills sends the message that transgender Hoosiers don’t deserve to live a safe public life.
