ACLU Nationwide’s platform for grassroots action, People Power, has launched the Let People Vote campaign to expand access to the ballot and make our democracy more representative.
In all 50 states and the District of Columbia, People Power activists will play a crucial role in campaigning for voting rights policies tailored to their state.
The call to action in Indiana is to convince the Indiana General Assembly to pass a bill that creates an independent redistricting commission and removes the power of redistricting from the hands of partisan, self-interested politicians. In the absence of an independent commission, lawmakers – Democrats and Republicans alike – manipulate district boundaries to favor their particular party. Politicians are choosing their voters, instead of voters choosing their politicians.
