Election Volunteer Opportunities

Have you made your voting plan, but now you're ready to do more to help others vote this November? Volunteering may look different for everybody for the 2020 election. We've gathered some resources and volunteer opportunities from all over the state of Indiana to help you find the right volunteer opportunity for you. These activities will range from phone and text banking to in-person tasks for those who feel safe participating.

By clicking the links below you will be redirected to other organizations' websites. Please be aware that these volunteer opportunities are not affiliated in any way with the ACLU. Before engaging in any in-person volunteer work, whether at polling sites or other locations, we recommend taking all appropriate COVID19-related safety precautions.

VOLUNTEER FOR CLE CREDIT

The Indiana Supreme Court Justices have agreed that lawyers who wish to volunteer at the polls are eligible to earn CLE credits and pro bono hours. Check out their website for more information on their decision and how to get involved.

BE AN ELECTION PROTECTION VOLUNTEER

Election Protection volunteers are a valuable resource for eligible voters to cast their ballot, can solve problems on the spot at the polls or virtually, and collect data to paint a picture of voting obstacles facing voters. They are looking for volunteers around the state to monitor the polls to answer questions, connect voters who are denied their right to vote to legal resources. They are also looking for folks to monitor social media to identify and assist voters experiencing problems voting. Additionally, they are in need of volunteers to proactively reach out to voters most likely to face barriers to provide them with accurate polling information and connect them with legal resources. For more information on how to get involved email jvaughn@commoncause.org or sign up to volunteer at www.protectthevote.net.

BE A MARION COUNTY POLLING LOCATION OBSERVERS

Indiana Tech for Progress, a recently-formed organization that seeks to get more members of Indiana's tech community engaged politically on initiatives that will move Indiana forward has partnered with Vote Safe Indiana to deploy technology that will keep voters informed during early voting and on election day, particularly on the current wait time at polling locations, so they can best execute their voting plan. They need volunteers who can be on the ground at voting locations during early voting and on election day to observe wait times and report them back to their system which will publish them to the web and make them available for all voters in Marion County. Signup to get plugged into this effort here.
