Indianapolis, IN – After President Donald Trump reportedly told Senate Republicans that legislation addressing Dreamers’ status should not be included as part of the end of the year spending package, the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana called on the Trump-Pence administration and the Republican controlled Congress to pass a clean Dream Act immediately.

Jane Henegar, Executive Director of the ACLU of Indiana, had this reaction:

“President Trump recklessly ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program with no plan for what to do next. This cruel and irresponsible decision has instilled fear and uncertainty in Hoosier communities and put the futures of 800,000 young people at risk.

“This is unacceptable. The Trump-Pence administration has an obligation to fix the crisis they created – and there is no time to lose. Dreamers have grown up here their whole lives; they deserve better than to spend the holidays living in fear of being banished from the only country they’ve ever known. Congress needs to stop kicking the can down the road and pass a clean Dream Act that protects all Hoosiers.”
