SB 471 Threatens Peaceful Protesters

Challenges to the right to protest have come in many forms over the last few years. And standing up for your right to protest can be increasingly challenging when demonstrations are met with unjust punishments. Indiana elected officials are looking to add to the already prevalent fear of police intimidation by tacking on additional monetary punishment based on association.

Inflammatory Rhetoric in HB 1211 Shames Women for Seeking Safe & Legal Abortion Care

Situated ironically in the midst of Women’s History Month, are Indiana legislators’ latest attempts to restrict women’s reproductive rights. In 1973, the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade, establishing a woman’s access to abortion care as a fundamental right. But once again, Indiana elected officials are pushing multiple bills that threaten a woman’s right to make her own, personal medical decisions.

12-Year Old’s Do Not Belong in Adult Court

Young people should remain in the juvenile justice system, regardless of their crimes. Senate Bill 279 would automatically waive juvenile court jurisdiction over children 12 years and older who have been accused of attempted murder or murder, sending children to the adult court and prison systems.

ACLU Partners with Civic Theatre to Pair Education Programs with To Kill A Mockingbird Play

Civic Theatre is bringing Harper Lee’s classic, To Kill A Mockingbird to the stage February 8-23, 2019. In partnership with the ACLU of Indiana, Civic will host over 3,500 middle and high school students at eight matinees of the play, providing an educational resource guide, along with Guest Experts, to discuss topical issues from the play, relevant in today’s society.

Case Closed - Leo Pride GSA to Receive Equal Treatment

A settlement was reached this month in which East Allen County Schools has agreed to allow Leo Pride Alliance to change its name to Leo GSA (Gay Straight Alliance), and to provide the organization with all meeting, communication and fundraising opportunities provided to other groups.
