This bill would create new liability for the actions of the more than 12% of Hoosiers who are employed by a state, county, or local government. In doing so, it would require those employees to provide “information,” which is undefined in the bill but could include such things as rumors or partially overheard conversations, at a parent’s request.

This is an incredibly broad bill that does not properly balance its goals against the privacy rights of minors. Further, the bill provides no protection for a government employee concerned that disclosing certain information to a child’s parent or parents will put that child’s safety at risk. Indiana can support parents without trampling on the rights of their children.
