The ACLU of Indiana filed a lawsuit against Indiana State University alleging that a recent ISU decision to terminate work-study and other funding for students employed at the Pride Center of Terre Haute, Inc. violates the First Amendment.

The U.S. District Court for the Southern Division of Indiana granted a permanent injunction against the ordinance and ordered that the city allow PrideFest to take place at the Public Square on September 6, 2025.  

The ACLU of Indiana filed an appeal to the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in its lawsuit against SEA 202, Indiana’s so-called “intellectual diversity” law.

The U.S. District Court for the for the Southern District of Indiana granted the ACLU of Indiana's request for a preliminary injunction against Indiana University over its “expressive activity” policy. The Court found that the policy likely violates the First Amendment.

The case challenges Indiana’s 25-foot “encroachment” law on the basis that it violates Hoosiers’ first amendment right to observe and record the police. 

We believe these policies infringe upon faculty members’ free speech and academic freedom, violating the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the Constitution.

The ACLU of Indiana today filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court on behalf of ten plaintiffs challenging Indiana University’s new “Expressive Activity Policy.”
