HB 1608, a bill that censors conversation about LGBTQ kids in schools and outs transgender students, today passed the Indiana House with little to no debate. This bill will now move to the Senate. 

HB 1608 would censor discussion about LGBTQ people in schools and force teachers and administrators to act as ‘gender police,’ outing transgender students without their consent. Our schools should protect all students—including LGBTQ students—so they can learn and thrive in a safe environment.

Judge grants preliminary injunction in ACLU lawsuit allowing 10-year-old trans girl to rejoin school’s softball team

The ACLU of Indiana filed a lawsuit against HEA 1041, which bans transgender girls from participating in school sports, on behalf of a 10-year-old girl who plays on her school’s all-girls softball team.

Governor Holcomb today vetoed HB 1041, a bill that would have banned trans girls from playing school sports with their peers.

ACLU is suing Valparaiso High School for denying a transgender student his right to use the correct restrooms. This is one of three ongoing lawsuits against Indiana public-school districts for discrimination against trans students.

The ACLU of Indiana, along with more than 70 organizations, medical professionals and faith groups across the state, has signed an open letter to legislators expressing grave concerns about attacks on trans youth athletes.
