Banned Book Club 2026: Dignity & Freedom to Read - May

Join the ACLU of Indiana, the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library, and Indy Reads for the first discussion in our 2026 Banned Book Club, themed Dignity & Freedom to Read. We’ll kick off the series with The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen, a powerful graphic novel that explores identity, family, and the importance of being able to see ourselves reflected in stories. As efforts to censor books and restrict discussions of race, gender, and lived experience continue to grow, this book club creates space to read, reflect, and celebrate the freedom to access diverse voices and ideas.

Reproductive and maternal rights collage

Ft. Wayne - Community Town Hall: Maternal Health and Reproductive Access

Across Indiana, families are navigating what it means to thrive during pregnancy, while raising children, and when making deeply personal decisions about their bodies and futures. As we prepare for the next legislative session, we’re bringing neighbors together to talk about what’s happening in our communities, across the state, and around the country. Whether you’re a new parent, a healthcare provider, someone still forming your opinion, or simply looking to better understand what’s at stake, this event is for you. What to Expect: 👉 Stories and insights from people on the front lines of reproductive care 👉 Space for thoughtful, respectful dialogue across viewpoints, Information on upcoming legislation and how it impacts your family and community 👉 Clear, meaningful ways to take action Why Now? Reproductive and maternal health are under threat in Indiana—and decisions are being made that affect us all. Compared to other states, Hoosiers, especially women and pregnant people, face greater barriers to reproductive care. Whether you’re seeking birth control, support during pregnancy, or access to all available options, we all face challenges. Together, we can push for policies to strengthen maternal health systems in Indiana and ensure that all Hoosiers can make decisions rooted in freedom, dignity, and care. This event is hosted by the Indiana Reproductive Health and Access Coalition in partnership with All-Options and Planned Parenthood.

Law CLEs

Free CLE: An Updated Look at § 1983 Litigation

42 U.S.C. § 1983 is the statute that allows citizens to enforce the United States Constitution and certain federal laws when they are violated by state and local actors. But its application is full of thorny issues, including the forms of relief available, state immunity conferred by the 11th Amendment, the currently hotly debated issue of qualified immunity, which federal statutes are enforceable through § 1983, municipal liability, attorneys’ fees questions, ethical concerns, and other issues. This seminar explores all of these issues, including the most recent pronouncements from the United States Supreme Court, and is designed to give the practitioner a detailed and current overview of § 1983 litigation. The six-hour seminar also includes one hour of ethics credit.
