Currently there is a section of Indiana law that requires local governments and colleges to communicate and cooperate with demands from a federal immigration authority about a person’s immigration status. SB 181 gives the attorney general the power to enforce this law. This is a clear attempt to target cities that have established ordinances limiting cooperation with immigration authorities. Bills that target cities in this way make our communities less safe by pitting law enforcement against immigrant communities.
