On May 21, hundreds of Hoosiers joined the ACLU of Indiana, Planned Parenthood of Indianapolis and Kentucky, and Indiana's Chapter of the Women's March on Washington to stand up for reproductive rights. The day of action was part of a nationwide movement in opposition to the extreme abortion bans signed into law in states across the country.

The ACLU of Indiana has five ongoing lawsuits against the state of Indiana for laws that would limit access to abortion, and we have won at every turn. Just this year, the Indiana General Assembly passed legislation to ban a safe form of second trimester abortion, and every year legislation is introduced to ban abortion all together, proving that these bans aren’t just in other states, they are lurking right here, in Indiana. Hoosiers showed up in force to tell elected officials - we won’t go back!

Over the past ten years, states have passed more than 400 restrictions on access to abortion. These laws are part of a national effort to eliminate access to safe and legal abortions.

These laws are not about women’s health, they are about taking away the right to have an abortion, plain and simple. We will continue to challenge these bans in court. Abortion is a constitutional right and we are doing everything we can to ensure abortion access for all.

Despite these attacks, it is important to know that today, abortion is still legal in all 50 states. Roe V. Wade has been the law of the land for more than 45 years, and the ACLU will do everything we can to ensure that people are able to get the care they need without shame, obstacles or stigma.
