In Memory: Barbara Williamson, former ACLU of Indiana Executive Director

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana is deeply saddened by the passing of former executive director Barbara Williamson, age 74, on Oct. 8. Williamson led the ACLU of Indiana from 1973 to 1979 after having volunteered at the organization.

This case, brought by a Muslim prisoner in October 2016, challenges the failure of the Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) to provide a halal diet with halal meat. Oral argument before the district court on whether or not to issue a permanent injunction was held on July 11, 2017.
